For all events, please dress for the weather and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We will have gloves and tools for volunteers to use. We welcome families, but expect that caregivers accept responsibility for direct management of any youth 14 years and younger.
• Compost Processing Workday (May 5, 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM) – Learn how to produce compost at home and the importance of mitigating food waste through composting practices.
• Compost Lawn Care (May 5, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM) – Learn how and why to top dress your lawn, explore basic composting techniques, and take home some compost.
• Heritage Farm and Compost Tour (May 5, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM) – See our seeding, learn our crop plan, and how we nourish the soil while growing the best produce possible. Then see where we turn food waste into valuable compost.
• Environmental Stewardship (May 5 and 11, 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM) – Learn about how to care for large areas of natural landscapes, where you’ll assist with browns collection, compost application, and more
• Farm Stewardship (May 11, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) – Learn how a small-scale sustainable urban farm operates, the importance of soil management, and how we support a productive landscape that balances animals, plants, and humans.
• Ginger Planting (May 11, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM) – Plant ginger with us and learn how Heritage Farm builds this tropical plant a bed to thrive in by using compost.
