International Ballet of Florida proudly presents an exquisite original production of Don Quixote. Set to the virtuoso score of Ludwig Minkus, witness an array of incredible guest artists including multi-winning gold medalist Young Gyu Choi, Principal Dancer of Het National Ballet and Prima Ballerina Olesia Shaytanova of Lithuanian National Ballet in their signature roles of Kitri and Basilio. Denys Nedak, international Guest Artist, Principal Dancer of Atlanta Ballet, People’s Artist of the Ukraine as Espada plus many more from around the world as they take the stage in this legendary story.
Kitri, the fiery daughter of an innkeeper who wishes for her to marry a French nobleman has fallen for the town’s penniless barber Basilio. Her father refuses to grant his blessing though the couple try as hard as they might for approval. Don Quixote himself arrives declaring that Kitri is the spitting image of Dulcinea, his divine romantic heroine whom he is on a conquest across the land to find. Going against her father’s wishes, Kitri and Basilio flee the town square after they welcome Espada and the toreros back from a bull fight.
Along their way they discover various colorful characters who have been traveling the Spanish countryside. We even get to witness Don Quixote’s beautiful vision filled with cupids and dryads who gracefully perform for him, luring him into deeper delusion. Kitri and Basilio reunite and reconcile with their families in the village where they are greeted with applause and celebration. Upon the insistence of the village the ballet reaches its climactic peak with the Grand Pas de Deux of Kitri and Basilio’s wedding. Join IBF in this adventurous love story that is equal parts comedy and romance making it a perfect night for the entire family.
