We're back!!!After several years' hiatus, International Archaeology Day will again be hosted at the Center for New Mexico Archaeology. The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division is sponsoring its Annual Archaeology Fair on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 with co-hosts, the New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture.
The Archaeology Fair is planned for 10 am until 4 pm and will be located at the Center for New Mexico Archaeology at 7 Old Cochiti Road, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
Activities will include:
· Atlatls and bow and arrow demonstrations
· Learn about lithics and ceramics
· Flintknapping demonstrations
· Learn about the 1883 Tertio–Millenial Celebration and Exposition in Santa Fe
· Make pinch pots or coil pots
· Paint replica pot sherds with yucca paint and yucca brushes
· Coloring sheets and puzzle activities
· Make a shell necklace using a pump drill
· Learn about the use of new technologies in archaeology (i.e., drones, geophysical equipment, 3/D printing and photogrammetry models)
· Miniature archaeological site formation activity
· Excavate in a miniature unit
· Play Native American games
· Animals and Archaeology
· Tour the Office of Archaeological Studies' facilities
· Full-hour tours of the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture's archaeological repository will be offered at 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
