Class ExperienceTake your wheel throwing skills to the next level in this intermediate class focused on crafting plates. Designed for students with prior wheel experience, this course will guide you through the unique challenges of throwing and trimming wide, flat forms. You’ll learn techniques for centering larger amounts of clay, managing warping, and achieving consistent shapes. Instruction will also cover rim styles, surface finishing, and glazing strategies that complement plate forms.
Whether you're aiming to create a set of matching dinner plates or experiment with platter designs, this class will help refine your technique and expand your functional pottery skills.
Prerequisite: Beginning wheel throwing or equivalent experience (must be comfortable centering clay and throwing basic forms).
Two hours of open studio is given weekly that expires by your next class. Free open studio includes throwing and trimming time on the wheel. Clay purchased separately.
