About this Event
Overview
This trip has been arranged with Jill, Nadia and Tina of Cycling UK Stevenage following our fun ride with them back in the spring. Big thanks to them for organising a second event for us ! We'll meet them at Stevenage railway station at 1030 to set off promptly at 1100. The route is 25km and we aim to be back at the station by 1500.
Route
Our route will make the most of the Stevenage Cycleway network and will include some traffic free paths that were once old lanes before the new town was built. We will then venture out into the countryside on quiet country lanes to visit the Camden Cycle Cafe (see picture) just beyond the village of Aston. After a stop for sandwiches and drinks there, we will return to Stevenage through the lanes and back to the station via Fairlands Valley Park. The ride will be on tarmac throughout with a few gentle inclines.
Getting there
On arrival at Stevenage, take the lift up from the platform - our hosts will be waiting in the concourse area outside the lift but here are the directions to where there is space to assemble:
Coming out of the lift turn right and walk towards Town Centre. Continue straight over the footbridge across the dual carriageway.Walk through the covered area which is decorated with photos of famous Stevenage residents past and present. Continue straight down the ramp and we will gather at the bottom where there is a big plaza area and some seating. There are public toilets nearby as required.
Please bring with you:
- A helmet if you wish to wear one
- Gloves
- Water and snacks
- Money/card if you wish to buy snacks at lunchtime
- Spare inner tube for your own bike
- A bike lock for your own bike
- Waterproofs if the weather looks dodgy
And organise your return rail ticket for yourself and your bike from London/Stevenage; trains from St Pancras take about half an hour.
