Intergenerational Dance with Hot Jazz takes place Sunday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness. This vibrant, cross-disciplinary performance features a new work by choreographer Christina Soriano, set to the infectious sounds of “Gypsy Jazz” performed live by The Piedmont Hot Club—Brad Cokendolpher (guitar), Martha Bassett (guitar), Pat Lawrence (bass), and Gabriel Pelli (violin & guitar). Co-choreographed by Soriano, the piece brings together dancers from diverse backgrounds and ages, including Wake Forest University students, faculty, and staff; children from the WF Community Ballet program; older adults living with Parkinson’s Disease and their care partners; participants in WFU’s lifelong learning program; and local professional dancers. This unique collaboration embraces a wide range of bodies, abilities, and experiences, challenging the conventional image of the dancer as young, able-bodied, and in complete control. By weaving together multiple generations and perspectives, the performance offers a joyful, inspiring vision of dance as an art form open to “any body at any time.”
