About this Event

London Southeast Psychotherapy Reflective Group

Interests: Reading/Psychology/Psychotherapy/Psychiatry Journal Papers; Contemporary Practice/Reflective Group

Background:

We are London Southeast based mental health focussed practitioners in psychotherapy, psychology, psychiatry interested in starting up a regularly bi-weekly or monthly meet up for journal papers; reading, reflection and growth as a part of our CPD requirements for future revalidation and for personal interest.

The group has been in the making for sometime. We propose a schedule of activities for attendees (regular attendees preferred; from within the area or commutable, we may have to move the day/times to match with the majority of attendees) to explore different recommended psychotherapy papers from each others therapy perspective; contemporary journals; historical papers, alternating with clinical experience reflective sessions.

Who's welcome?

This group is mostly advanced for practicing theoretical and clinical therapists/post-graduates in psychology; Masters or PhD as well as interested multi-disciplinary professionals in the philosophy of psychology; psychotherapy research; qualitative and contemporary clinical evidence based practices.

What do we do?

We agree an agenda based on:

1. Journal reading: each member nominates a paper which interests them for reading prior to meeting in a schedule set for the year. We will read a paper in advance and share and reflect on the paper for 40 minutes each time we meet. The schedule can be agreed in advance for papers of interest; difficult papers; historical papers; polemic papers; or even personal writings prior to submission for reflection and crits.

2. Clinical practical challenges

This group is led by its participating members; clinical experience of a therapy modality to discuss, share and allow other clinicians to dialogue with and create a new horizon of awareness of how the case is seen through the optics of another therapy school (e.g. a clinical case formulation from a Kleinian perspective, may become opened up from another discipline (Gestalt; Interpersonal, Behavioural, Cognitive, Dialogic etc).

3. Group bonding and growing towards CPD

Many therapists in the London Southeast work independent of the National Health Service and are required to demonstrate evidence of professional development towards future revalidation. We hope to pilot this group with a goal of creating a viable and recognised CPD group for private therapists, counsellors and mental health practitioners engaged in CPD activity.

4. Conditions

Confidentiality; boundaries and regulation of professional standards is required for this group. This group does not replace personal supervision; nor other CPD activities. It has been started for shared interest with a view to developing community psychological therapists who share similar humanistic values and wish to strengthen their own personal practice in group learning; personal learning and expand their horizon by participating in a non-hierarchical reflective practice group.

There is a nominal charge of £2.00 per session to cover electricity/room rental and space as well as confirmation of motivation to attend. We meet at the CAT Cafe @The Film Atelier (see image below)
