About this Event
Presenter: John Charping
This presentation explores the sounds and history of unusual musical instruments. Included in the presentation will be three 100+ year old instruments: a European mandolele, a Columbian 31 string zither and an upright Czech 3/4 bass. Other instruments include the Appalachian mountain dulcimer, several ukuleles (dating from the ‘50s to present), a banjo uke (‘Dixie’1950s), a uketar, a refurbished, fretless ‘50s (Le)Roy Smeck soprano ukulele, harmonicas, and maybe even a guitar, keyboard and/or pedal steel guitar. A total of 15-20 musical instruments will be used in the presentation. As you might imagine, each instrument has a story to tell, too. As a participant, please feel free to bring any unusual instrument you wish to share. Since time is limited, presentation of each instrument must be brief (3-5 minutes max).
