About this Event
We are delighted and thrilled to bring an international dimension to the next Talk with Diljeet Dosanjh-Taylor speaking in this series.
Diljeet Dosanjh Taylor is an inspirational figure in the world of US athletics, known for her dedication to empowering athletes and fostering a culture of motivation and success. As the Head of Women’s Cross-Country Coach and Associate Director of Track and Field at Brigham Young University (BYU), she has achieved remarkable success in her 20-year coaching career.
Taylor’s journey began at her Alma mater, Cal State Stanislaus, where her enthusiasm and ability to inspire athletes caught the attention of Brigham Young University (BYU) Track and Field Director, Edward D. Eyestone, who remarked “I had a sense that her athletes would run through a wall for her.” Her move to BYU marked a significant step in her career, and within four years, she led her team to a National Championship in cross country.
Growing up in a Punjabi household, Taylor honours the strong immigrant women who raised her by empowering the women she coaches. She is driven by a sense of purpose and passion, constantly asking herself, “Who did you empower today?” This commitment to empowerment extends beyond coaching, as she published a motivational book in July 2024 titled “Believe in Her – Why Girls Need Motivation and How to Cultivate It.”
Taylor’s achievements and credentials are impressive :
- Qualifying two professional athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
- Coaching National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) champions in six different events and 110 All-Americans (The “All-America” designation is an annual honour bestowed on outstanding athletes in the United States who are among the best athletes in their respective sport).
- Being named Women’s Cross-Country Coach of the Year five times.
- Receiving the Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year award in 2023.
- Being honoured as the US Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Women’s Coach of the Year in 2020/21.
- Earning the Mountain Region Coach of the Year title in 2019 and 2020/21.
Her name, Diljeet, meaning “Winner of Heart” in Punjabi, perfectly reflects her ability to win the hearts of her athletes through her passion, enthusiasm, and motivational skills.
Before her coaching career, Taylor was herself a three-time All-American at 800m and 1500m distances. She is married to Ira Taylor and has two sons, Taj and Avi.
