About this Event
Inspiring Civic Leadership Through the Arts is a 4-part arts-based program for young Latinx change makers interested in making a difference in local communities and organizations. Participants may take the full series in order or attend individual sessions as stand-alone classes.
Adriana Paez, MSW, a local voting rights advocate and artist, will guide participants in using a creative form of democratic civic engagement - zine making - to practice in their community and/or organization. They will learn about civic holidays and the history of voting rights in America, with a focus on the Latinx experience from past to present. Participants will be invited to reflect on and share their own civic identity development story and to assess civic engagement efforts in their community or workplace.
Class dates are:
- Monday, October 20
- Monday, November 3
- Monday, November 17
- Friday, December 5
The program will conclude with a community gallery walk where participants present their creative action plans and commit to joining other strong Latinx civic leaders across the Kansas City metro area in the fight for democracy.
