Bio:
Born and raised in Brooklyn with stints in Puerto Rico, Janie May is a singer, songwriter and classically trained dancer of Puerto Rican and Italian-Argentine descent.Drawing comparisons to artists like Adele, Candi Staton, Lauryn Hill and the Eurythmics, she writes lyrically driven alternative R&B/soul that seeks to uplift and inspire.Featured in Songwriting Magazine UK and Fault Magazine, she has been writing since childhood and released her debut single in 2019, her debut EP in 2020 and debut album in 2025.Inspired by the character Janie Mae Crawford in Zora Neale Hurston's classic novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, music is her way of finding and expressing her voice.She is currently working on her second album, slated for release at the end of 2025.
