About this Event

Join Stephanie Morris, Director of Innovation and Translation for the Adelaide Intermediary Program as she hosts MTPConnect’s SA Insights Series for October.

Stephanie will facilitate a fire-side chat with Carina Biotech’s CEO, Dr Deborah Rathjen.

Carina Biotech recently raised AU$7.5m at first close of its current funding round with Tenmile the cornerstone investor. Carina Biotech, a pre-clinical company developing next generation CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T cell) technologies to fight cancer, will use the capital raise to complete its IND enabling studies and commence clinical studies for lead compound LGR5 CAR-T cell for patients with advanced colorectal cancer.

For Tenmile, the investment is one of the first for the new $250m venture fund backed by Twiggy Forrest’s Tattarang, kicking off its hunt for quality investment opportunities purely in Australian health technology companies.

Deborah will share insights into their respective entrepreneurial journeys so far, how the investment deal came about and what is in store for the next chapter of these exciting organisations.

This event will be followed by an opportunity to network over drinks and nibbles.

Carina Biotech

Carina is developing CAR-T therapy, (a new treatment option that uses a patient’s own immune system to fight their cancer) and other adoptive cell therapies to treat solid tumours. CAR-T therapies are patient-specific and result in little, if any, off-cancer damage. Using its proprietary platforms, Carina is also developing technologies to improve access to, and infiltration of, solid cancers, and to enhance CAR-T cell manufacturing.
