About this Event
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has a collection of Museum in a Box loan kits which are available for loan to schools in Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
The Inside the Apothecary Jar loan kit allows students to investigate the ingredients of 1600s-1800s medicines in an engaging and exciting way. Through activities students will learn where ingredients are sourced, how medicines from 1600s to1800s were made, and which ingredients physicians used to treat which illnesses.
Inside the Apothecary Jar contains four different activity packs, a folder of archive materials and 12 different objects. It also contains 12 smelling objects for students to investigate and match to their source.

All Museum in a Box loan kits from The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh are designed to be used with students from p5 to S2.
Inside the Apothecary Jar is available to loan during the follow three loan periods:
1. Summer - Christmas
- Pick up week: Monday 12th August 2024 to Friday 16th August 2024
- Drop-off week: Monday 2nd December 2024 to Friday 6th December 2024
2. January - Easter
- Pick up week: Monday 6th January 2025 to Friday 10th January 2025
- Drop off week: Monday 31st March 2025 to Friday 4th April 2025
3. Easter - Summer
- Pick up week: Monday 21st April 2025 to Friday 25th April 2025
- Drop off week: Monday 23rd June 2025 to Friday 27th June 2025
After you book through Eventbrite you will be contacted via email to complete and sign our loan contract, to choose a pick-up date and time, and to choose a drop-off date and time.
All loan kits must be pick-up up from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, 11 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1JQ.
