What exactly is holography? How does it work, what can it do, and why does it matter? Once you open the door to this unassuming Midtown East storefront, you'll be transported to a universe dedicated to the mesmerizing art of holography where science fiction meets science fact.
Join New York Adventure Club for a rare trip inside Holographic Studios, the longest operating gallery & laboratory of holography in the world, and only one of its kind in New York City.
Led by scientist and holographic technology pioneer Jason Sapan (aka Dr. Laser), our unique experience at this very intimate space will include:
- An overview of the origins of holography and how a hologram is made
- A look at different types of hologram technology, including reflection holograms (which are fully three dimensional); multi-channel holograms (that change from one image to another as you walk past); and integral holography (full motion images)
- A look at the gallery's most notable & unique pieces, from celebrity portraits (Andy Warhol, President Bill Clinton, Billy Idol) to a private commission of a palace in Saudi Arabia
- A rare visit to the subterranean laser lab where we’ll get a live demonstration showing how holograms are created
At the end of the experience, all guests will go home with a holographic memento!

About Jason
Jason Arthur Sapan is a pioneer in holography. His professional involvement dates back to 1968. Mr. Sapan is the founder of the Holographic Studios in New York City, the world’s oldest gallery of holography. His work has been commissioned by many of the world’s leading corporations, museums, and universities.
He was on the faculty of NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) grad school where he taught Holography, and has taught Holography at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Mr. Sapan has also lectured at Ohio State University, University of Vermont, School of the Arts Institute Chicago, and CCNY, among other academic institutions.
He is the featured artist at the new show opening December 3, 2021 at the Aspen Art Museum.
