Ink Spill Festival: Poetry Workshop - Faye Marshall

For our second festival workshop, we are so excited to welcome Faye Marshall.

For her session, Faye will share writing prompts to help you develop your writing practice:

September. Summer is coming to an end and we prepare to head into new seasons. Days are shortening and change is in the air. For many people, September can feel like new year. In France they have a name for this time and this familiar feeling; “la rentree”, the return. Returning from summer living to the day-to-day of normal life. Returning to the colder months. This hour-long poetry workshop will explore what it means to return. Whether returning to a different time in your life, to a place you remember, a friendship, to autumn, winter, or simply returning to yourself, we will explore poems written on the theme of returning and you will have the opportunity to enjoy several writing exercises, with a chance to share what you create, if you would like to.

About Faye:

Faye Marshall is a poet, spoken word artist and writing workshop facilitator. Faye founded the Cloth and Coal poetry community in south Leeds in 2023, where she hosts regular performance events and supports community projects that have included publications and installation art for Leeds 2023 Year of Culture.

Her experience with Cloth and Coal underpin Faye’s role as co-founder of Wordfolk Poetry, where she facilitates writing workshops with fellow West Yorkshire poet, Tim Brookes. Faye has hosted workshops and panels in the UK, Europe and Central America, and she continues to work with local and international organisations to support their creative programmes.

Faye has had work published in Public Sector Poetry, the Written Off anthology ‘Ey Up’ and most recently her work has been accepted by The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press for their anthology Facing Goodbye, published in summer 2024. Faye has been invited to co-edit an anthology with prestigious London-based poet and spoken word artist Mark Coverdale of Tonic Sta Press, and is working on several multimedia projects for 2024, alongside her first pamphlet, which will be published in Spring 2025 by Yaffle Press.

Faye works as a specialist nurse in the NHS and themes of care and compassion often manifest in her writing
