Great opportunity of visiting Artist Studio and experiencing Chinese Ink Painting.
About this Event

Painting with Chinese ink on Xuan paper is a wonderful and fascinating experience. During the studio visit, Aritst Jare Fitzgerald will demonstrate the different ways that the ink can be applied to the paper, including the different types of brushes or other methods of transferring the image. We’ll have a brief history of painting with ink, and there will be examples of different types of ink paintings that are displayed on the walls. Once everyone has practiced painting, each person will choose the subject flower to paint. There will be 2 vases of flowers for inspiration; however, imaginary flowers are certainly acceptable. The process involves experiencing how the ink and the image work together. The ink has its own effect on the paper and the paper has its own effect onthe image. It’s a magical and satisfying experience with a drawing to take away.

Outline of the Workshop:

1) Discuss the unique and inspiring use of painting with Black ink on Rice paper.
2). Show some samples of the different types of Rice paper. Briefly go over the ink paintings that I have hung on the wall. Talk about the different results and about how inspiration will guide the completed painting. PAINTINGS PUT UP on THE WALL OF THE STUDIO.
3) show and discuss the different types of Brushes that can be used to paint with. Also show the use of bamboo as a drawing/painting tool.
4). Talk about and demonstrate the different results that can be produced when painting on rice paper.
5). Show how the different amounts of ink and water will affect the rice paper.
6) The 8 painting stations will have been set up. Each station will have their ink container, water container and three types of brushes. FINE (fine line), MIDDLE SIZED, LARGE SIZED (for ink washes).
7) Indicate the two subjects. FLOWER or LANDSCAPE painting. HAVE FLOWERS in THE STUDIO.
8) The students first begin to practice using the different brushes and the ink.
9) once they have experienced the unique effect that ink on rice paper can have, then they can choose which one to paint. Flower or Landscape.
10) IMPORTANT: explain and show how the ink has a spontaneous effect on the paper and how the unique and different marks that they will make will “Interact”. How reactions between the persons marks are then influenced by the amount of water and ink that is used to make the image. It’s dance between what the intended image and the reaction of the ink is on the paper.
