About this Event
As Muslims, we are full of stories, thoughts, joy, anger, vibrancy, truth and voice. Writing is a way to get that out and share it. But that can be hard!
Muslim Literary Festival invites you to a workshop where we'll enjoy a Muslim-only space to connect to and trust our voices while hearing and celebrating each other's. We’ll recognize our efforts, and sit in big questions:
- What do I want to write the most?
- What is mine to say?
- How can my voice be a place of liberation and freedom?
In this 2-hour workshop, Asifa Sheikh from Firefly Creative Writing will lead a group through a series of short, fun, accessible writing exercises designed for all experience levels, from "what am I doing here" to "I've totally got this." The workshop will help participants connect to the vast power of their voices, and then put those voices to work.
We'll scribble rants and lists, stories and poems, following our curiosity, and finding new places our personal expression can go.
After, we'll take a long break for a late lunch (provided by MLF) and connection, and then re-gather for an open mic evening, hosted by Stay Woke, where any participants who want to can take the stage and share some of what they created.
