
Capturing Dance Through Sketches-Workshop by Subodh Poddar
Subodh Poddar is a multidisciplinary artist known for his dynamic Dancescapes, a series of rapid sketches capturing the essence of live dance performances. A graduate of Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Arts, he began his career in advertising while simultaneously pursuing his passion for art. For over 30 years, Poddar has been painting Dancescapes using Chinese ink on rice paper, portraying some of the most celebrated dancers, including Pandit Birju Maharaj, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Mallika Sarabhai, Kumudini Lakhia, Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam and others. Beyond painting, he is also a sculptor, working with bronze, terracotta, and ceramic to bring his artistic vision to life. With a deep passion for movement and form, Poddar continues to explore the intersection of dance and visual art, creating a unique artistic language that celebrates the beauty of performance.
