World class pianist Pablo Cardenas and outstanding vocalist Ingrid Mapson present an evening of tangos at The Coda Lounge, (located at 751 View St, Victoria, BC). They’ll be performing all time tango hits mixed with adapted songs from the classical and popular international repertoire. Pablo and Ingrid started their musical collaborations a few years ago when she joined one of Pablo’s shows in Victoria, since that first occasion she was able to reconnect with singing in Spanish, something she has always enjoyed. After that they’ve started to work together on different projects that became popular in the area like “Viva Latinoamérica” and “Gershwin in Havana”. At this particular show she will be singing in Spanish, English and French.
“Ingrid has an instrument with a rich, round, warm, honeyed color, and is very much at home in a variety of styles”, says renowned American-Canadian Maestro Clyde Mitchell who has appeared with every major Canadian orchestra. She is widely admired for her soulful and soothing interpretations, born in Argentina and brought up in Canada at an early age, Ingrid used to listen to Argentinian and Latin folklore played at home by her parents. She has enchanted audiences in various countries singing in various languages. Her passion for orchestras has seen her singing for various Canadian symphonies and her album Rhythms of Your Heart was produced by Grammy-nominated Daryl Bennett, with some of Canada’s top musicians.
Pablo Cardenas is a Cuban Jazz pianist, composer, music educator and arranger with different influences like Afro-Cuban, Latin jazz, jazz fusion, modern jazz, classical and more. He studied classical performance at the Superior Institute of Arts in Havana, Cuba. Since the 2000s he has been performing in music festivals in Havana and internationally. He has been residing in Canada since 2011 where he created different music projects as The West Coast Cuban Orchestra, highly contributing for the development of the Afro-Cuban music and jazz scene in the area, performing at the most important venues and festivals around, and collaborating with many accomplished musicians like Canadian treasures Dee Daniels and Denzal Sinclair. Pablo has been also collaborating with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra in the last years.
