🎷 Ingrid James + Pete Churchill (UK) Quintet present The Great American Songbook & Beyond at Brisbane Jazz Club! 🎷🎵 Vocal Jazz / Swing / Bossa Nova / Samba / Bebop
🚪 Doors Open: 6:30 PM – 11:00 PM
🎶 Live Music: 7:30 PM – 10:00 PM
📖 About the Event:
Pete Churchill, pianist, composer, arranger, singer (Professor of Jazz Composition at the Royal Academy of Music, London), is visiting Brisbane briefly in early October. Pete and Ingrid James recorded an album last year, released by ABC Jazz. Additionally, ABC Jazz released a song from the same album, which was featured on their Australian Women of Jazz ’25 – Various Artists CD compilation, where Eric Myers from The Australian described Ingrid as being one of Australia’s “finest female vocalists”.
They will share their extensive repertoire from the lyrical elegance of The Great American Songbook to rhythmically rich explorations of the bossa nova, samba, bebop, and beyond, (also featuring some songs from their latest album). Ingrid has a style that effortlessly blends classic jazz with Brazilian and contemporary influences. With a voice, both intimate and expressive, she brings a rare emotional depth to every performance, whether interpreting a timeless standard, a tender bossa nova or an adventurous modern arrangement. With Pete Churchill’s sensational arrangements, and a common goal of constantly seeking new influences and new context for repertoire they choose to perform, Pete and Ingrid will be joined by the dynamic Shelley Bishop on sax, Samuel Vincent on bass and Lachlan Hawkins on drums.
The diversity of this repertoire becomes, in the hands of these improvisers, the freshest kind of jazz… loose, interactive, exploratory and joyous!
