and Assessing Risk





Target Trainees


This seminar is aimed at qualified staff, practitioners, and managers from agencies in Angus (including Police Scotland, Angus Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Tayside, Angus Council Children’s Services, Housing and Justice, financial services, the third sector and the independent sector) involved in the operation of adult protection processes.


Participants should understand their agency’s adult support and protection policies and procedures and should ideally have previously attended or undertaken an introductory course on adult protection such as Roles and Responsibilities in Adult Protection.


This seminar is suitable for professionals who would benefit from an understanding of risk assessment, information sharing and data protection in the context of adult protection.




Aims and objectives:


AM Information Sharing and Communication (9.30 – 12.00)

· To develop participants’ understanding of the legislative and policy framework around information sharing and adult protection.


· To consider the barriers to sharing information and how to enhance effective communication about adults at risk of harm, within and across agencies.


· To hear about the role of Angus Independent Advocacy.



PM Assessing Risk (1.00 – 3.00)


· To consider the circumstances which lead to adults being in need of support and protection


· To introduce staff to risk assessment methods and how to avoid errors in risk assessment


· To help staff identify risks and protective factors – for individuals, in families, and within professional systems


· To enhance participants’ contributions to assessment and decision making
