About this Event
Centro Cultural de la Raza invites you to the closing celebration of Indigenous Borderlands: Weaving Nepantla, Remembering Sacred Relations. This exhibit, featuring the work of Gina Aparicio, Celia Rodriguez, and local artists across the Kumeyaay Nation, México, and the US, Indigenous Borderlands, creates space for dialogue, thinking, and feeling about borderlands past, present, concurrent, and future.
Participants may view the exhibit in the company of several featured artists, who welcome your questions and observations, hear from them about their work and the exhibit, and enjoy live music and a community dinner. Artists Gina Aparicio, Ana Ruth Yela Castillo, Denisse Silva, and Alicia Siu are confirmed to attend.
For 54 years, Centro Cultural de la Raza has celebrated and nurtured the creative richness and stewarded the rage and hope of Indigenous, Chicana/o/x, and Latinx people of the borderlands - people who love and know the expansive region as home for thousands of years or a few generations, or as a place of temporary respite. To these ends, our ambitious two-year project, Borderlands Visions, reflects upon and advances the critical role of art and cultural production in the borderlands. Indigenous Borderlands: Weaving Nepantla, Remembering Sacred Relations, curated by Maria Figueroa and Susy Zepeda, is our second Borderlands Visions exhibit and features the following artists:
