Join us for a fascinating event exploring Indiana's Contribution to the Understanding and Treatment of Sickle Cell Anemia, 1927-2002 at the Indiana Medical History Museum.
Sickle Cell Disease, first described in Western medicine in 1910, has existed for thousands of years, originally in Africa and the Mediterranean area. Northern migration of Blacks from the southern United States increased the populations of persons who experienced the condition in the North.
Norma Erickson will highlight the nature and scientific study of this inherited disease, including the discovery of the sickle cell trait by an Indiana physician.
