Indian Jungle Safari with Shyamla Eswaran

Explore the jungles of Southern India in this unique, movement-based adventure. Puppets, masks and music are used to spark creativity and to craft an Indian safari-inspired group dance.

Learn the dance movements of different animals for our tree parade as part of Jungle Jam later in the month (Saturday 20 August)! There will be a refresher class before the parade.

When: August 13

Times: 11am-noon

About Shyamla:

Shyamla Eswaran is a professional Performing Artist, Choreographer and Teacher with three decades of experience. She specialises in cultural dance (Hip Hop, Bollywood, Brazilian Samba and Semi-Classical Indian ), having trained and performed each style in its country of origin. Shyamla has taught at renowned studios throughout Australia and abroad (Sydney Dance Company, Ettingshausens, Dance Attic).

She is also the founder of the South Asian fusion dance group, BINDI BOSSES.

Covid Safe Plan:

Bankstown Arts Centre has a council-approved 'CovidSafe Plan' in order to ensure the health and safety of all visitors and Arts Centre staff. Measures include physical distancing, contactless hand sanitising and regularly cleaning.

Bankstown Arts Centre regularly reproduces photographs/video footage of people in its publications, promotional, marketing material and on its website, in order to promote the organisation or for educational purposes.

Bankstown Arts Centre would like to be able to use and reproduce one or more photographs/video footage of you, or taken by you, for this purpose and is seeking your consent to do so. Once enrolled, you will receive a Photo Release form via email should you consent.

Cancellation Policy:

Bankstown Arts Centre cannot accept responsibility for changes to students’ personal circumstances that prevent attendance. Fees are non-refundable and there are no transfers or refunds if you miss a class.

If classes are cancelled due to COVID restrictions, students will receive a refund for the remaining classes in the term.

Terms and Conditions

What if I can no longer make it to the workshop?

Our school holiday program is extremely popular, we kindly ask that you only register if you are confident you can attend. We understand that at times, circumstances change unexpectedly. If you cannot attend and need to cancel your ticket(s), please inform us at [email protected] as soon as possible so that we can offer your spot to someone on the waiting list.

Workshops

During holiday workshopswear comfortable clothes and enclosed shoes. Bring a bottle of water; snack is optional (no nut products)

For parents/guardians - drop off your child in the workshop classroom five mins before the commencement of class and pick up your child at the end of the workshop. We do not provide childminding after the class.

Parents and guardians are welcome for this workshop apart from our facilitator. You are welcome to wait outside the classroom until the conclusion of the workshop if you prefer to not participate but wait.

Bankstown Arts Centre advises parents that the students may be working with paint and glue that is difficult to remove from clothes, please wear suitable clothing for painting activities.​​

Student Conduct

Students attending classes will follow the rules of the Centre and the instructions of the teacher or other staff.

Students will not interfere with the work of others and will not behave in ways that present risks to the safety of themselves or others.

Students who present a risk to others or themselves through repeated inappropriate behaviour may be refused enrolment.

If children do not follow the rules or repeated requests from teachers or other staff to behave in an appropriate manner, parents will be contacted to collect their child from the Centre.
