Downtown Books is happy to announce our participation in the 11th Anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day! Our favorite day of the year and it's right around the corner- Saturday- April 27! Indie Bookstore Day was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the Independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are over 900 stores participating across the country. Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book."At Downtown Books, this is one of our busiest days of the year," said owner Jamie Anderson "our loyal Manteo customers come out, our ride or die supporters from all over the Outer Banks and even our true blue out of town fans will schedule a visit to coincide with Independent Bookstore Day."
In addition to a wide variety of exclusive IBD merchandise that won't be available for sale until the 27th (including the ever popular IBD Blackwing pencils), Downtown Books will also be rolling out new Blind Date Books, hiding tickets that correspond to some great raffle prizes, handing out lots of fun free stuff for kids (like Dog Man masks!), taking new memberships in our Inner Circle Club and just celebrating books and all things bookish.
Downtown Books opened in 2012 to bring back a bookstore to the downtown Manteo area after the beloved Manteo Booksellers closed. In that time we have been named Best Bookstore on the Beach four times in a row, hosted hundreds of local, regional and nationally best-selling authors, brought authors into Dare County Schools, supported many local organizations and efforts and not just survived... but THRIVED. We remain resolute in our mission to put the right book in the right hands at the right time. Stop by on April 27 and let us show you how good we are at doing just that!
