Increasing Preceptorship Opportunities for Nurse Practitioner Students at Independent Clinics and FQHCs
One of the most pressing issues in preparing the future healthcare workforce is the lack of clinical preceptorships, a requirement for graduation. This is especially the case for Nurse Practitioner (NP) students. FQHCs and independent clinics remain an untapped resource for precepting opportunities. Learn from this case study how North Central Family Medical Center enhanced its preceptorship program by partnering with the USC College of Nursing.
Objectives:
- Increase awareness of the lack of NP preceptorship opportunities
- Increase knowledge of the cultural differences between FQHCs and larger clinical/academic settings
- Increase proficiency of incorporating students into the clinical flow of an FQHC
- Increase knowledge of the preparation and administrative support needed to have a successful NP preceptorship program
