Quello con Pelle di Lava e Chiara Indelicato è stato amore a prima vista. Abbiamo già avuto modo di goderci in libreria la presentazione del suo libro, e di conoscere meglio la sua pratica e il suo impegno nel far dialogare bellezza e sensibilità politica e ambientale.
Non potremmo essere più felici, ora che ci godremo anche l'esposizione del suo lavoro in libreria.
Chiara Indelicato, fotografa e abitante di Stromboli, esplora nella sua opera la vita su un’isola vulcanica, dove gli abitanti vivono con la consapevolezza acuta di un mondo finito, in balia degli elementi. Sotto la cenere, tra il mare e il fuoco, si interroga su come sia possibile sussistere in un ambiente dalle risorse limitate.
Pelle di Lava trova la sua origine in due catastrofi avvenute nel 2022:
un incendio che ha devastato la vegetazione dell’isola, seguito da piogge torrenziali che hanno provocato colate di fango fino a raggiungere il villaggio.
Attraverso questo progetto, Chiara Indelicato propone una riflessione sull’emergenza climatica, rivendicando una relazione animista con la natura e il diritto di difendere questa terra viva e fragile, di cui il vulcano diventa esso stesso portavoce.
Sviluppando le sue immagini con caffè, vitamina C e acqua di mare, in assenza di mezzi inquinanti, intreccia un legame organico tra il suo procedimento e l’isola, aspra e indomabile.
Stromboli è un’isola, un vulcano, un microcosmo nel cuore del Mediterraneo che incarna la sfida globale dell’emergenza climatica.
Negli ultimi anni l’isola è stata sconvolta da una serie di catastrofi – incendi, colate di fango, eruzioni – che rendono tangibile la realtà della minaccia ecologica, generando una paura lucida e razionale. Nè lo sviluppo umano e tantomeno urbano sull’isola sono estranei alle conseguenze drammatiche di questi eventi.
Pelle di Lava, nel suo approccio al tempo stesso plastico e politico, affronta il fragile equilibrio della coabitazione tra l’uomo e il vulcano, tra il tempo sedimentario e il tempo quotidiano.
Dietro queste immagini c’è un lavoro di osservazione attenta del territorio e una ricerca tecnica coerente con il senso del progetto. Tutte le fotografie sono realizzate interamente con procedimenti che utilizzano solo sostanze non tossiche: caffè, vitamina C e acqua di mare. La materia stessa diventa linguaggio: i toni scuri evocano la roccia vulcanica, mentre il processo di stampa restituisce al gesto fotografico il suo legame con l’ambiente. In questo modo, il lavoro si radica non solo nella rappresentazione, ma anche nella pratica, dove ogni scelta riflette l’intenzione di catturare con precisione tanto il segno quanto il senso.

It was love at first sight with Pelle di Lava and Chiara Indelicato. We already had the opportunity to enjoy the presentation of her book in the bookshop and to learn more about her practice and her commitment to bringing beauty and political and environmental awareness into dialogue.
We couldn't be happier now that we will also be able to enjoy an exhibition of her work in the bookshop.
Chiara Indelicato, photographer and resident of Stromboli, explores in her work life on a volcanic island, where the inhabitants live with an acute awareness of a finite world, at the mercy of the elements. Under the ashes, between the sea and the fire, she questions how it is possible to survive in an environment with limited resources. Pelle di Lava has its origins in two disasters that occurred in 2022:A fire devastated the island's vegetation, followed by torrential rains that caused mudslides that reached the village. Through this project, Chiara Indelicato offers a reflection on the climate emergency, calling for an animistic relationship with nature and the right to defend this living and fragile land, of which the volcano itself becomes a spokesperson. Developing her images with coffee, vitamin C, and sea water, without the use of polluting agents, she weaves an organic link between her process and the island, harsh and indomitable.
Stromboli is an island, a volcano, a microcosm in the heart of the Mediterranean that embodies the global challenge of the climate emergency. In recent years, the island has been ravaged by a series of disasters—fires, mudslides, eruptions—that make the reality of the ecological threat tangible, generating a lucid and rational fear. Neither human nor urban development on the island is immune to the dramatic consequences of these events.
Pelle di Lava, in its approach that is both plastic and political, addresses the fragile balance of cohabitation between man and volcano, between sedimentary time and everyday time.
Behind these images lies careful observation of the territory and technical research consistent with the meaning of the project. All the photographs are made entirely using processes that employ only non-toxic substances: coffee, vitamin C, and sea water. The material itself becomes language: the dark tones evoke volcanic rock, while the printing process restores the photographic gesture's connection with the environment. In this way, the work is rooted not only in representation but also in practice, where every choice reflects the intention to capture both the sign and the meaning with precision.
