NC Writers Network & The Brandy Bar + Cocktails hosts "In the Company of Writers", a program that offers a series of personal and conversational dialogues featuring guest writers/poets followed by an open mic forum. These inspirational gatherings will elucidate and entertain those attending. The guest authors speak from 7-8 PM with an open mic from 8 -9 PM. The Chicago blues music of “Hollywood Johnny Cosgrove” welcomes you, continues during intermission, and closes the evening. Sign-ups for the open mic visit: https://thebrandybar.com/writers-open-mic/
Catherine Carter’s poetry collections include Larvae of the Nearest Stars, The Swamp Monster at Home, and The Memory of Gills (all with LSU Press) and three chapbooks. She and Brian Gastle recently translated and edited John Gower’s 33,000-line medieval poem The Lover’s Confession (Medieval Institute Press). Her work appears in Best American Poetry, Orion, Poetry, Ploughshares, RHINO, and Ecotone, among others. A professor of English at Western Carolina University, she works in teacher preparation. On a good day, she can re-queen a hive of honeybees and roll a whitewater kayak; on less good days, she collects stings, rock rash, and multiple contusions.
Jeremy Jones is the author of the memoir Bearwallow, which was named the Appalachian Book of the Year in 2014, and a forthcoming nonfiction book tentatively titled The Coded Life (to be published in 2025). His essays appear in Oxford American, Garden & Gun, The Bitter Southerner, and Brevity, among others, and he writes regularly for Our State magazine. Jeremy earned his MFA from the University of Iowa and is an associate professor of English Studies at Western Carolina University, where he also directs the annual Spring Literary Festival.
Malaprop’s Bookstore will be available to have books signed and for sale during the evening. Location: The Brandy Bar, 504 7th Ave East, Hendersonville, NC 28792
