Writing in a Flash: How to Write Ultra Short Essays
Join Lilith magazine, the independent Jewish feminist magazine in print since 1976, to learn the art of writing in compressed space, sometimes called flash, micro, postcard or short-short creative writing. Lilith writers, including the executive editor and novelist Sarah Seltzer, will share their tips and tricks to this delightful form and lead us in a series of short writing prompts to spark your imagination. Writers of all experiences welcome.
Independent, Jewish & frankly feminist since 1976, Lilith’s mission is to be the feminist change-agent in and for the Jewish community: amplifying Jewish feminist voices, creating an inclusive and positive Judaism, spurring gender consciousness in the Jewish world and empowering women, girls and trans and nonbinary people of every background to envision and enact change in their own lives and the larger community.
For more than a decade, Sarah Seltzer has been a feminist journalist and cultural critic. Her lively writing for publications including The New York Times, TIME, Jezebel, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, The Nation, and many other places has shaped the discourse on subjects ranging from Hollywood casting, to abortion rights, to Jane Austen and beyond. A native and lifelong New Yorker, Sarah is currently the Executive Editor at Lilith Magazine. is her debut novel.
