Overview
Join Diane Foy, M.Ed., at the Green Bay Community Church for a detailed overview of John Gottman’s Sound Relationship House and how to integrate the research findings into couples therapy. Participants will have time to interact and practice skills of interrupting couple interaction and assisting clients with incorporating relationship maintaining skills. Learning
Objectives
- Explain the research of John Gottman and how this research differs from other research on couples therapy.
- Describe the Sound Relationship House Theory developed by John Gottman after his decades of research with couples.
- Incorporate concepts from the Sound Relationship House Theory in working with couples in psychotherapy.
- Describe and explain the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse as a dynamic that develops within couples.
- Identify the 4 Horseman through use of video presentation and/or case vignettes.
- Learn how to interrupt and assist couples with the antidotes to the 4 Horsemen by practice through role play.
- Learn the importance of Repair Attempts and maintaining positivity during relationship conflict.
- Identify Repair Attempts during couple interaction and how to assist couples to integrate repair attempts during conflict.
- Learn how to assign homework appropriate for couples therapy clients.

Meet the Speaker
Diane Foy is a Licensed Psychologist in private practice in Wayzata, MN. Diane also provides couples intensive weekend retreats. Diane has been in the mental health field for over 30 years. She began her career as a child, adolescent and family therapist and gradually began focussing her clinical practice towards helping couples after reading John Gottman’s book, The 7 Principles for Making Marriage Work in the mid 1990’s. Diane has completed the Gottman Institutes Gottman Method of Couples Therapy training Levels 1, 2 and 3 as well as the Gottman Method for Treating Trauma and Affairs and The 7 Principles Leader Training. Diane has worked in adolescent residential and day treatment centers as well as in county mental health centers before beginning her private practice.
Continuing Education Credits
6.5 contact hours will be earned. The training should meet the CEU requirements for the following board:
