About this Event


To attend this class in person, on site , you need to adhere to BIDMC's current policy.

Requirements ...at time of registration/sign up, in order to attend in person:

- Be asymptomatic of Covid -19 at the time of the event.

-Have had no recent household exposure.

-encouraged to wear masks, but not required.

We will update you via email if this should change.


All of the above are a hospital wide policy, and have to be adhered to , no exceptions.


Thank you for understanding, and we are very excited to be able to offer class live and in person!


This comprehensive class is taught by our RN certified Childbirth Educators and covers what new parents need to know to prepare for their upcoming labor and birth and equips them with the knowledge to feel confident to take their newborn home from the hospital. This class is a 1 day all inclusive class (8am to 4pm). The morning session will cover labor and birth and goes over topics such as:

  • stages of labor and when to call the doctor
  • comfort strategies including epidurals and pain medicine
  • vaginal birth, c/section and potential interventions
  • postpartum- what to expect in the hospital and home

The afternoon session covers Infant Care and CPR- topics covered are:

  • newborn appearance and behaviors
  • feeding
  • sleeping
  • diapering, swaddling and bathing
  • SIDS prevention and keeping your newborn safe
  • choosing a pediatrician
  • choosing infant care products

Life sized dolls are available for practicing skills.

The additional 1 hour Infant CPR session , uses the American Heart Association's Infant CPR Anytime program. Participants will receive an Infant CPR Anytime kit which includes the DVD watched in class along with a blow up mannequin to practice on. To view the kit go to www.shopcpranytime.org and look for the infant kit. Please note that this class does not provide CPR certification.

Only 1 ticket is needed for the expectant parent and 1 support person. Please note that this is along day, and a lunch break is provided( but lunch is not included) Feel free to bring your own lunch from home, or there is a cafeteria near the classroom within the hospital. Please dress in layers as the thermostat can be unpredictable in these rooms on weekends. Its been both very warm and very cool on occasions.

There is a cafeteria near the classroom( you can grab water here too), or there is a food court and several locations within walking distance of the hospital that you can grab lunch during the lunch break. There is also a Starbucks and Panera in the lobby that is open most weekends.


All correspondence regarding class will be sent to the email used to register. Class location and directions will be emailed 48 hours prior to the class.


Parking

Parking is available for a fee in the East Campus, main entrance Feldberg parking garage on 330 Brookline Ave. Do not park in any other garage, as doors may be locked on weekends. This is the same parking garage you will be using when you come in to deliver your baby. Pull a ticket, and keep it with you. It is ok to park in any available spot. There is a basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor and roof top level. You can get the ticket validated to the patient rate at the information desk inteh lobby on your way out.

Cancellation policy

Please email [email protected] 48 hours prior to the class date to cancel.( as there is usually a wait list) or you will be charged for the class. If you wish to switch to the zoom platform of the class, please email asap and we can send you the link(s) to join as a zoom participant( although depending on the classroom we are using, you may need to attend via zoom on a different date) We cannot send you a zoom link or refund you once the class has started.
