This month’s bal won’t be our usual bal. On 12th January 2025, we will be celebrating the life of David Gee, founder of Balfolk Oxford, who sadly passed away on the 21st of December 2024.
For the bal, we’ve kept our usual timing of :
2pm - Doors open
2.15pm - Newcomers workshop
3.15 - Social dancing starts
4pm - Sharing time to remember David Gee
5pm - Social dancing continues
6.30pm - pack up time
At 4pm, there will be time dedicated to sharing memories of David, with opportunity to sing, dance, and tell stories of your wonderful times of David and of moments you’ve shared with him at Balfolk Oxford since it started in 2016 here at the Isis Farmhouse.
We’d love your company there, and to share a dance or two in memory of David thereafter.

Join us for another Sunday afternoon mini-bal at the Isis Farmhouse, Oxford’s favourite riverside pub - with live music.
All welcome. Never danced balfolk before? We'll show you how, it's quite easy.
No charge, though buy something at the bar if you can.
Practicals
- Soft shoes with a bit of slip work best but aren't essential.
- Bring an extra layer or two if it’s cold - the space isn't heated.
- The pub has no direct road access - come by bike or on foot, or park in Iffley village on Mill Lane or Church Way and cross the river at the lock.
- We'll be out the back of the pub - ask at the bar if you can't find us.
- Other access info at https://www.theisisfarmhouse.co.uk/about.

So what's a bal?
A bal is a relaxed, continental folk dance and music session, for everyone. Musicians play, dancers dance, newcomers join, people meet, friends are made. Some dances are partnered, some are circles, some snake along in long, trancy lines. All are lively, soulful, and rich in spirit. At the Isis there's always a chance to grab a bowl of chips and make friends between dances, and some quiet space if you need it.
Bring your family, friends, children, your dog, and dance with us.
See you there! 🏳️🌈
