About this Event
Come along to an evening of conversation with L.R. Lam, the bestselling, award-winning author of Dragonfall (the Dragon Scales series), the Seven Devils duology (co-written with Elizabeth May), Goldilocks, the Pacifica novels False Hearts and Shattered Minds, and the Micah Grey trilogy.
"Long ago, humans betrayed dragons, stealing their magic and banishing them to a dying world. Centuries later, their descendants worship dragons as gods. But the 'gods' remember, and they do not forgive."
Zara Van Zyl will be leading the conversation and inviting questions from the audience.
Copies of the author's publications will be available to purchase on the night.
This event has been funded by the Scottish Book Trust for Book Week Scotland. It is also part of the programme accompanying the new exhibition from the University Collections.
Exhibition: Imagined Norths (opens 11 Nov 2024)
“Here be dragons” comes from the Latin phrase hic sunt dracones. In the Middle Ages, mapmakers would use this wording to indicate uncharted areas on maps, where they thought there might be dragons or other mythological creatures. It was meant to warn people of potential dangers in these areas.
Attendees are welcome to visit the Imagined Norths exhibition which asks: How did the North Sea's monsters go extinct? Where have Scotland's fairies gone? What happened to the psychic powers of the Highlanders? The items on display include a rare edition of one of the earliest atlases, Abraham Ortlius: the Theatrum orbis terrarium (1592 edition).
