“Of all the new theatres to open in London this century, none feel so vital as The Yard.” Andrzej Lukowski, Time Out
With a £9000 grant from Arts Council England, director Jay Miller founded The Yard Theatre, East London as a temporary amphitheatre in a warehouse.
Jay’s work has been described as "exquisite", "gloriously surreal", and "wildly imaginative" (The Guardian, Time Out and The Stage, respectively). Jay’s recent credits at The Yard include The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams (“One of the finest stagings of the Tennessee Williams play that I've ever seen.” ★★★★ The Telegraph), The Flea by James Fritz (★★★★ Time Out), This Beautiful Future by Rita Kalnejais (★★★★★ The Stage), The Crucible (★★★★★ The Sunday Times, Evening Standard) and Dirty Crusty by Clare Barron (★★★★★ Evening Standard).
At The Yard Jay has nurtured the careers of some of the country’s most exciting artists including Michaela Coel, Alexander Zeldin, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma D’Arcy, Malik Nashad Sharpe, Eva Morgan, Dipo Baruwa Etti and Rhianna Illube.
After a successful £6.5million capital campaign The Yard will open a new purpose built theatre in Summer 2026. The Yard is now a permanent and indispensable part of the UK theatre scene and "a mecca for some of the most interesting theatre in Britain" (British Vogue).
