About this Event
Voices of Houston’s Annual Spiritual Festival is a platform for community organizations and educational institutions to collaborate in the preservation and elevation of the Negro Spiritual. Serving as a musical record of African American dialect, coded language, and codified forms of protest, the Negro Spiritual is not only an incredibly valuable element of Black heritage but also the root of many other forms of music we enjoy today. At the 2023 festival, ensembles will gather to participate in workshops, masterclasses, and a collaborative concert to honor Black legacy.
10:00a - 12:30p | Workshops
Setting the stage for our closing concert, the masterclasses and workshops will allow participants to deepen their understanding of the Negro Spiritual and receive personalized feedback and guidance from experts in the field. Purchase a $25 Festival Day Pass to gain access to select workshops and priority seating at the Closing Concert.
5:30p - 7:00p | Closing Concert
A major component of our 2023 festival, the closing concert will feature all participating choirs for an evening of musical excellence, celebrating the Negro spiritual. Register for General Admission to join us!
Featured ensembles include Davis High School Choir, Southwind High School Choir, and Wiley College.
