About this Event
The death of a child is one of the most difficult situations in healthcare and one for which most feel under-prepared. Our innovative two-day course will create a safe environment where all health care professionals who care for children can learn about paediatric end of life care.
Course Overview
Our supportive, experienced, specialist faculty will use simulation, lectures and workshops at one of the UK's leading simulation centres.
Day 1 - Leaners will be able to practice communication skills in small groups, in a safe environment with specialised actors.
Learners will develop and enhance skills in breaking bad news to families and children, ethical dilemmas and caring for a distressed parent. Learners will be fully supported by a skilled faculty including specialist psychologists, learning how to debrief, look after their own wellbeing and support families during end of life care.
Day 2 - Learners will focus on the practical elements of paediatric end of life care such as:
Joint Agency Response/ Child Death Review Meetings
Organ and Tissue Donation
Spiritual & Religious care
Symptom management, diagnosis of death, last offices and memory making workshops
Legal framework and Coronial processes around child death
This course is suitable for all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the South West caring for children and their families at end of life.
