This 3-day workshop concentrates on improving your crochet skills. Participants will be taught how to read crochet patterns and charts through the process of making a pair of cosy wristwarmers/mitts. You will learn how to add colour, texture, and lace detail to your projects. You will get some great tips for getting a professional finish on your projects as well as how to block for the perfect shape. We will break up the main task with some fun mini-projects to demonstrate individual techniques.
Materials
Participants should bring their preferred crochet hooks in 2.5, 3mm, 3.5mm and 4mm, a scissors and a yarn needle.
A materials list for the main project will be released closer to the summer school (cost ~£20). Materials for any additional mini-projects will be provided by the tutor.
OUTCOMES
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
• Read crochet patterns in both UK and US terms.
• Create texture in your work using a variety of stitch combinations.
• Add colour to your crochet projects.
• Be able to start and end your work in ways that give a professional finish (blocking, invisible joins, standing starts).
• Interpret crochet charts to create lacy borders and motifs.
Who is the course for?
This course is for participants who already know the basics of crochet (UK double and treble crochet). You should be able to work in basic rows or make a granny square for example. Together we will learn new techniques to introduce colour and texture to your work and how to create the best finish on your makes. Everyone will be able to work at their own pace in a relaxed environment.
