It's every improvisor's dream: branching out into sketch comedy!
In this two-hour workshop, discover how to use your improvisational skills to create original sketches. Join Michael Trainor, Sketch Director of The Nova Show, as we harness improv to generate ideas and develop strong sketch premises. Whether you're looking to try sketch for the first time or looking for new tools to spice up your writing, this is the workshop for you!
In this workshop you’ll learn how to:
- Mine improv for premises and characters
- Shape improv-generated ideas into structured scenes
- Inject more play and sponteneity into your writing
Please bring a notebook, notes app, or something means of taking notes.
About the Instructor
Michael has been writing and performing comedy since 2014. As the former head writer of the Boston Sketch Company and a frequent contributor to Mess + Finesse’s Somerville Night Live, he now serves as the Sketch Director for The Nova Show. He is passionate about helping writers bring their comedic ideas to life.

About the Location
This class is located at The Cambridge Foundry, in a room called The Point. If you head in through the front of the Foundry, you'll see a staircase straight ahead. The room is right at the top of the stairs! An elevator to the second level is also available. And if you need help, you can ask at the front table - The Foundry staff is ready to help!
