Dear massively multi-disciplinary, systemic change community in the SF Bay of people in the process of changing the world who happen to hike: I am pleased to say that we have found a time when David Hodgson, and I, Bobby Fishkin, can gather with many of you for our next hike: Impact Assessment & Impact Measurement hike for systemic change.
"In order to ensure the greatest consistency and synergies
with existing impact measurement efforts, the
FAST Toolbox has been developed in partnership with
the Global Impact Investing Network’s Impact Reporting
and Investment Standards (IRIS) initiative1 and
Committee on Sustainability Assessment2
. Input into the development of the toolbox has been provided
by more than 60 researchers, investors, lenders, NGOs
and other strategic stakeholders.
Version 1.0 of the tool defines 112 indicators for assessing
the sustainability of investments in the developing
country context. "
"What the FAST framework and indicators DO provide is a common reference point for benchmarking, making comparisons and as a basis for explaining and measuring the individual theories of change that each impact investor implements. The group of FAST indicators
are designed to capture the core data points that the impact investment community regards as relevant to their respective theories of change. With this in mind, it is expected that individual investors will elect to apply a select group of the full list of indicators that most directly match their specific theory of change."http://www.fastinternational.org/assets/reports/indicators/FAST%20SIAMT%201.0%20Full%20Report.pdf
"There is a prescriptive nature within nearly all of the methods that ratings/scores are
determined according to what each methods’ creators believe to be best, right or important,
or what they are aiming to achieve. The architects of the GIIRS approach, for example, aim to
facilitate “more investment to flow into positive impact companies” through their offering
(Olsen and Galimidi, 2008: 20).
Methods express a bias towards sustainability that underplays how new investment activity
can propel economic and social value. Said another way, social and environmental impact
methods omit the social contributions that can come from a firm creating jobs, catalysing
economic activity amongst suppliers, creating secondary jobs and delivering new products
and services to customers. In the AtKisson “Compass Investment Sustainability Assessment”,
for example, there is no explicit consideration of the value that repeating financial returns can
bring to the social realm (AtKisson, 2005). " http://www.lse.ac.uk/businessAndConsultancy/LSEConsulting/pdf/Assessing-social-impact-assessment-methods-report.pdf
Hiking is good at creating rhythms of thought, pace of mind, and a social cadence for collaborative creativity and improvisational thought. Its also essential to ensure your thinking is cumulative with other disciplines and patterns of understanding.
