For Human Rights Day the Amherst Chapter of Amherst International is holding a forum on immigration, along with our cosponsors the Human Rights Commission of the town of Amherst and the ACLU of Massachusetts. Given what is and could occur right here in the Valley, it’s urgent that we all gather and discuss how to protect our undocumented neighbors. The forum will be held on Sunday, December 8 from 2 to 4 PM in the Woodbury Room of the Jones Library.
Two of our panelists—Javier Luengo-Garrido of ACLUM and Ariana Keigan of the Pioneer Valley Workers Center—are working directly now, training and defending the rights of undocumented folk and asylum seekers. Part of their legislative work is the Ice Out of Massachsetts advocacy campaign. Our third panelist Raz Sibii, faculty at Umass-Amherst and columnist at the Daily Hampshire Gazette, will provide an invaluable overall context on local immigration issues.
We feel very strongly that we want your voice, experience, and expertise as well to contribute to the discussion and help us understand what is happening right here in the Pioneer Valley. Please please join us! It is so important that you are present also.
Also, please share this event info with colleagues, groups, and neighbors. Also add this event to your calendars and newsletters. We want to get the word out.
Again, it's URGENT to focus on human rights for all.
