Come explore concepts & techniques for helping teams learn in the context of their work at the immersive learning conference.
About this Event

After a few year hiatus, the conference focused on whole-team, immersive learning environments (Dojos) is back.

This conference is designed with 'the people that help teams learn' in mind. The conference will be highly experiential - you will be learning, exploring, applying, and teaching.

Format

We are trying something completely new this year. To get practice applying as well as teaching techniques and ideas, expect the following type of format:

  • 3 or 4 invited speakers spend a few minutes presenting an idea or concept to you - what it is, why it is interesting.
  • You then choose which of the concepts you want to go learn and try. Think of it as a mini hands-on workshop for about an hour or so with a group.
  • After that mini-workshop, you will pair-up with and teach someone that wasn't in your group (or your teacher even).
  • The goal is not correctness! The goal is trying to teach and seeing what new questions and observations arise through teaching.
  • You then have a small debrief with your original teacher.
  • There will be roughly 4 of those types of cycles. Topics will be repeated once so you can get to multiple ideas.
  • And of course some open space!

Invited Friends

We are honored to have the following confirmed friends joining us

  • Woody Zuill - Creator / Discoverer of Software Teaming (mobbing / ensemble programming) and no estimates
  • Beth Carrington - President and Master Coach - Beth is world renowned teacher in the Toyota Kata, applied in many domains
  • Niels Pflaeging - Founder of the BetaCodex Network and former director of the famous Beyond Budgeting Round Table, he is author of a variety of books on leadership & change, and the creator of approaches around organizing in complexity, team learning and learning acceleration
  • Llewellyn Falco - Creator of Approval Testing and deep technical coach
  • Niranjan (Ninja) Janardhanan - Assistant Professor of Management; London School of Economics. His research around 'cross-understanding' and its impact on teams
  • Tara Scott - Coach, Head of Organizational Behavior Services at Industrial Logic - Tara works with organizations to discover how to innovate their teams and their products. She teaches sustainable psychological safety practices and team dynamics mapping.
  • Mark Graban - Author of numerous books on lean, metrics, and improvement, Mark works with organizations to help them embrace continuous improvement.

We are still confirming a few more friends. Expect the following ideas to have experiences:

  • Domain Driven Design
  • Developer Experiences

If you are itching for a hands-on experience that is going to help you create better environments for teams to learn, come join us!

Other Information

For our out of town friends - we will be getting a block of discounted hotel rooms nearby. Expect that information in the next week or so.

Many of the speakers have offered to teach a longer workshop if there is interested. Those workshops will be open to the public but we are working with the speakers to provide conference attendees with discounted rates.

There will be a more general conference with more open space opportunities on Friday that week if interested as well. Check it out here.

Food

A light breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided on both days. In your ticket, please answer the question if you have any dietary requests

Covid / Health Protocols

We will follow Chicago Covid protocols. At the time of creating this event, there are no masking policies in place but that is of course subject to change. Attendees are of course more than welcome to wear masks and we will have additional masks on hand in the event anyone would like one.
