About this Event
This course is suitable for a variety of roles including doctors, ODPs, nurses, midwives, dental professionals, paramedics, physiotherapists, 3rd year healthcare students and experienced healthcare support workers requiring resuscitation skills.
Learning outcomes - The course teaches the knowledge and skills to:
- identify the causes and promote the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest
- recognise and treat the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach
- undertake the skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (AED) and simple airway manoeuvres
- utilise non-technical skills to facilitate initial leadership and effective team membership
The course is run over one day and the course programme consists of one lecture, skill stations and cardiac arrest simulations.
Pre-course preparation - Studying the course manual and completing tasks associated with the Resuscitation Council UK Learning Management System (LMS). A manual is sent to candidates approximately two weeks before the start of the course; unless candidates book later. Candidates are expected to prepare by reading the manual and an online completing a multiple choice questionnaire on the Resuscitation Council LMS.
Assessment - Assessment is continuous with successful candidates receiving a Resuscitation Council (UK) ILS provider certificate, which is valid for one year. The ILS course is recognised for continuing professional development (CPD) points by the Medical, Dental and Nursing Royal Colleges and Health Care Professional Council.
