A trailblazer in modern Kannada theatre, Sri Prasanna Heggodu brings a unique three-day acting workshop that masterfully combines the ancient principles of Natyashastra with contemporary improvisational techniques. A Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Sri Prasanna Heggodu is a prominent Indian theatre director and playwright, known for his distinctive approach to acting. His workshop, ‘Imitation to Characterisation’, focuses on two core principles – Imitation as the Starting Point and Characterisation as a Process. The first principle emphasises how actors begin by mimicking a character’s external traits – gestures, voice and posture – as a means to immerse themselves in the role, which sets the foundation for deeper emotional and psychological exploration. In the second principle, Heggodu underscores that acting is an evolving journey. Moving from imitation to authentic embodiment, actors gradually internalise the character, connecting with their thoughts, emotions and actions. Over three days, actors will progress from external mimicry to deeper characterisation, culminating in a day of improvisation to refine and experiment with their roles. Improvisation will allow actors to explore their characters in dynamic, real-time scenarios, encouraging creative freedom and collaboration. Heggodu’s goal is to guide actors from an intellectual understanding of acting to a more process-driven, organic experience, blending classical principles with modern techniques for a transformative acting journey. A graduate of the National School of Drama (NSD), Heggodu founded Samudaya, a pivotal force in shaping Kannada theatre in the 1970s. Celebrated for his organisational skills and innovative vision, he has directed for NSD, Ninasam, Rangayana, and other prominent groups. He also served as the National President of the Indian People's Theatre Association. Fuel up with an energising breakfast and enjoy lunch at the Theatre Café to make the most of this enriching experience!
