Elmasry, emeritus professor of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, will join us to discuss his new book, iMind: Artificial and Real Intelligence, which is gaining international media attention for its innovative approach to similarities and differences in how human brains and human-made devices process and retain information.
This program is presented in partnership with Words Worth Books in celebration of 40 years.
About iMind: Artificial and Real Intelligence:
Due for its Canadian release in August, iMind draws on the author’s career-long global reputation as a leader in the design and development of ANNs (Artificial Neural Networks) and microchip design, as well as his lifetime of interest in human intelligence, physiology and spirituality.
Dr. Elmasry wrote iMind for the general reader to bridge the knowledge gap between AI (Artificial, or Machine Intelligence) and RI (human Real Intelligence). In a recent interview with Newsweek Magazine, he explains the critical importance of maintaining a healthy balance between them.
Important chapters in iMind deal with how human RI, including our memory, ages and can succumb to dementia and other neuro-cognitive disorders. But we can reduce or even prevent dementia in our senior years through lifestyle changes that enhance our physical, mental and spiritual fitness.
