Imbolc (Oimelc, Imbolg, “ewe-milk”) is one of the four major Celtic fire festivals. It is the time between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, also known as the Festival of Bride (Bridget) or the Feast of Lights. For the Celts, this was the quickening of the year, the first stirrings of spring, and the celebration of Bride, triple fire goddess of poetry, healing and smithcraft. The Irish still honor St. Bridget, and the Christians adopted this feast as Candlemas.
