Imbolc (or Imolg) is a festival of returning light and the beginning of Spring, celebrated on or around 1st February. It is a Celtic tradition stemming from Neolithic Ireland and Scotland, marking the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.
The word Imbolc derives from the Old Irish i mbolg meaning 'in the belly', when the seeds of life first start to swell and survival till spring is assured.
It is a time to nurture creativity and ideas that come from in the belly, under the snow, in the earth. Understory, undercurrent, underground, fire in the belly, rebirth, restore, possibility.
Imbolc is also a celebration of Brigid, the Irish Goddess associated with the fire, wisdom, childbirth, poetry, song, healing, protection, smithing, and animals.
She is known for her hospitality to poets, musicians, and scholars, she is celebrated as the Irish muse of poetry
Join friends and neighbours and local writers, musicians and storytellers for a gentle evening gathering and celebration of Imbolc.
