Join Gorton Pagan Moot for their 2025 Imbolc celebration, here at the Monastery.WHAT IS IMBOLC?
Imbolc is a Gaelic traditional festival marking the beginning of spring and celebrated on February 1st. It is also the feast day of Saint Brigid, Ireland’s patroness saint, and is observed by Irish, Scottish, and Manx people, as well as modern Pagans. Traditionally, Imbolc is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals, alongside Beltane, Lughnasadh, and Samhain. The festival is associated with the goddess Brigid and symbolizes the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
ABOUT GORTON PAGAN MOOT
Gorton Pagan Moot meet throughout the year, around the Sabbats (although sessions may not be themed around the Sabbats). Sometimes there are talks or workshops, other times it's just a social gathering.
At their first session of the year, Andrew Gorman will be coming along to guide us through the process of making a Brigid’s Cross. We offered this workshop about five years ago and it was incredibly well received and a lot of fun so we thought it might be time to offer it again.
The beginning of February is traditionally celebrated as the beginning of Spring, and the Brigid’s Cross is symbolic of this. They are usually made from reeds or rushes, although we will have some other materials on hand for the younger members of our group.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
As always the Moot is family friendly, anyone can attend.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Participants can expect a lot of fun and laughter and will be able to take their creations away with them.

Sunday 2nd February - 1:30pm – 3:30pm
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
This Imbolc celebration is free to attend, but donations are gratefully received.
