Imagery and Music (GIM) Community Session with Sophia

The Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) is a powerful therapeutic approach that uses carefully selected classical music to facilitate personal growth and healing. This music-centered method helps individuals access and explore both the depths and heights of human experience through imagery and altered states of consciousness.

A typical GIM session lasts 1.5-2 hours and follows a structured format:

• Initial conversation to assess needs and set intentions (20 minutes)
• Music selection and preparation for relaxation (15 minutes)
• Guided relaxation into an altered state (10 minutes)
• Main music experience with ongoing dialogue (30-45 minutes)
• Integration through mandala drawing and discussion (15-20 minutes)

During sessions, clients enter a receptive altered state while listening to specifically chosen classical music. Unlike traditional talk therapy, GIM allows access to deeper levels of consciousness - from preconscious material just below awareness to unconscious content and even transpersonal.

The San Francisco Community Nights events are not commercial events; this is not a for-profit business. All contributions go to cover the venue rental and support the facilitator.

• Please come with a ticket. We have a "no ticket, no entry" policy to ensure we have the correct number of people to fit the space.
• Last-minute tickets on the event day will start at $40 to encourage early commitment.

Sophia Shu Wang is a board-certified music therapist, life & relationship coach, and a Level II trainee in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music. She holds a Master Degree in music therapy from New York University. She has spent the past decade working with individuals and groups in NYC and SF Bay Area. Drawing from her multicultural background and experience with multiple orientations (client-centered, psychodynamic, solution-focused, mindfulness), she creates spaces where people can explore their authentic selves and deepen their connections with others.
