Ill Considered holds freedom in high regard where structure is seen as oppressive and enthusiasm and energy prevail. The result? ‘Free jazz’ à la Pharoah Sanders with hefty bouts of afrobeat, Ethio jazz and echoes of grime and dubstep. King Shabaka Hutchings is also a fan and invited them to the renowned Le Guess Who? festival back in 2018 when he curated it.
Their output is so big that we have lost count by now, but their latest album ‘Precipice’ has already been showered with **** reviews. Trouw: ‘In the live recorded improvisations of the British Ill Considered, the fire and nippiness of the free jazz of the 1960s can be heard.’ Or De Volkskrant: ‘With Ill Considered, when the mighty sax threatens to go off the rails, the equally great rhythm section catches it.’
