The Imperfecta Gallery is excited to invite you to the opening reception of Il Cantastorie (The Storyteller), an exhibition featuring Italian artists Marco Calvi and Gioconda Pieracci.
On view from April 5 to April 26, the show features an impressive collection of original artdolls, illustrations and stories that retrace the travels of "Il Cantastorie" (The Storyteller) – a mysterious and immortal figure who crosses eras, legends and dreams.
Each artwork in the exhibition focuses on a step in the journey of this wondrous character, as he aimlessly wanders around the world meeting new people and mythical creatures. Viewers are guided on this magical journey, one artwork to the next, by Il Cantastorie himself, thanks to Italian author Federico Grasso, who wrote all narrations for this special exhibition.
In the words of The Storyteller himself:
"I can't tell what, of all the wonders I have seen, was true or just a dream. I wandered for a long time and was the guest of kings as well as goblins, divinities and witches, in every corner of the globe. I observed much and many stories were told to me. The journey and the company were so pleasant for me that on my return I wanted to share what I witnessed. I therefore commissioned dolls and illustrations, works of great value, so that they could reproduce what was contained only in my memory – or imagination. I gathered all the works in this exhibition, so that anyone could enjoy them. Together with my stories, the fabulous creations of Gioconda Pieracci and Marco Calvi will accompany you into this world of wonder and astonishment."
The opening reception is on Saturday April 5th from 5 to 7pm and will include wine by local woman-owned Corcilla Cellars.
About
Marco Calvi is a freelance illustrator who lives and works in Milan. He collaborates with various publishing houses, including ABEditore, Mosca Bianca Edizioni, Nativi Digitali Edizioni, and with craft businesses throughout Italy.
Italian artist Gioconda Pieracci, known as Pupillae, sees doll-making as a form of storytelling and creates artdolls that are infused with a dreamlike, surreal vision, seamlessly intertwined with the natural world – ethereal beings that exist between fantasy and reality.
